The New Guy
You might be reading this and thinking, “Jonathan Majors? I haven’t heard of him.” And you’d be right! You haven’t heard of him! And that’s OK. Many people have heard of him, because he’s quickly and quietly become a star right in your backyard. From HBO’s Lovecraft County to Marvel’s Loki, he’s a booming up-and-comer. But he is green, so don’t feel bad – before 2017, he had never appeared on film before. Former vampire? Nope! Just a guy who got a bit of a late start to his acting career.
But what a career it will be! He’s already secured his second Marvel gig as the main villain in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. And you know what they say: once you’re in with Marvel, you’re set. Unless you’re a woman who is looking for her agreed-upon share of film profits, or Edward Norton.
But what a treat to have a relatively fresh-faced non-child get up there on the Saturday Night Live stage and just do his thing, without the excess baggage of being a major celebrity. Sure, it’s nice to see Kim Kardashian-West do something comedic, but you can’t sit there and unsee Kim Kardashian-West for even a second. So let’s buckle in for a night of top-tier sketch comedy, unobstructed from megastars.

As For The Rest Of Us
There’s a lot more to look forward to this season of SNL – Taylor Swift will be this week’s musical guest, and Ontario’s own Simu Liu is hosting next weekend. Who knows what the rest of the season has in store? Another John Mulaney episode? Probably, he’s hosted the past four seasons! How about another former cast member? Already we saw Jason Sudeikis, but there are so many after 47 years that it would be hard not to get another one on this year. Who would you like to see?
All that to say, those working on the show are in the know of what’s to come. As for the rest of us, we just have to keep watching our sets (FYI: 11.30 et/8.30 pt on Global) to find out.
Saturday Night Live can be streamed live and On Demand on the new Global TV App and on STACKTV. Global is also available through all major TV service providers.
