A Jake For All Seasons
Jake Gyllenhaal, the man with the most copy-pasteable last name in Hollywood, will be your host on SNL this Saturday. That’s right, the guy who’s not quite Ryan Gosling and not quite Ryan Reynolds but close enough to both if you’re a fan of either will be returning to Saturday Night Live for the second time! Hard to believe that such a widespread and consistent actor has only had the honour once before. But this weekend is making up for lost time and past mistakes.
Jake Ctrl+V is best known for his roles in Night Crawler, October Sky, but not any Spider-Man movies as Spider-Man, even though he totally could have been. Instead he outgrew that role and became Mysterio for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Figure out who he is yet? Because he’s also brother of Oscar-nominated director Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maggie Same-Last-Name was recently nominated for her directorial debut – an incredible honour in itself for first-time directors.
Despite having a literally unspellable last name, and a likeness to many other actors who rose to stardom in the early 2000s, Gyl– uh, Jake, has a lot of well-regarded drama films that he’s starred or co-starred in on his resume. There’s no better true crime drama than Zodiac, and Donnie Darko basically popularized the term underground sleeper hit. Brokeback Mountain was too ahead of its time for it’s own good, sadly, and there’s speculation that he swiped the lead role in Source Code…
Next point – who’s ready for a Nick Cage renaissance? Beyond the pseudo gritty-reboot of Babe he did last year he’s gone unnoticed for some time. Maybe he could even host the SNL season 47 finale? Fingers crossed, everyone!
But for this Saturday, tune in to Global at 11.30 et/8.30 pt for more Jake Gyllenhaal goodness!
Saturday Night Live can be streamed live and On Demand on the new Global TV App and on STACKTV. Global is also available through all major TV service providers.
