Creator, Executive Producer and host of The Talk Sara Gilbert  stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk The Talk (and perhaps walk some kind of metaphorical or symbolic walk while she’s at it).

Ironically, Sara Gilbert created The Talk back in 2010 because it’s what she didn’t want to do. Not a big talker, she figured something like The Talk would take her out of her comfort zone, in a good way.

For those of you not in-the-know, Gilbert got her big start on the late-1980s sitcom Roseanne when she was just 13 years old – playing the titular character’s daughter Darlene for the show’s entire run from 1988 to 1997. She has since had an extensive career in television as an actor, with recurring roles on ER, 24 and The Big Bang Theory, to name a few. Now, she is co-host on The Talk, a weekday talk show that she created and executive produces, and will be returning as Darlene in the upcoming 10th-season revival of Roseanne (which was also her idea). 

Stephen was on The Talk last September too, you know, to talk, and goof around and stuff. That’s practically all he ever does, anyway. So while on The Talk, he was being his casual self – pretty much the same Stephen you’d see on The Late Show. And the Stephen on The Late Show can be pretty loose, doing and saying some things that he knows won’t get past the CBS censors (does anyone remember when he drew a picture of a “cannon” that had to be blurred out?). So he’s lucky he wasn’t too loose-lipped, because unlike The Late Show which is recorded in the afternoon and broadcast live-on-tape, The Talk is broadcast live on the east coast. And he had no idea.

Lucky him, right?

Sara Gilbert started acting young, and had a bit of a television dynasty to go on – her grandfather created the short-lived but oh-so-iconic The Honeymooners. Consequently, she was a star as a kid, being on Roseanne, and giving interviews. Stephen was so kind to dig up some of those 30-year-old interviews, and ask Gilbert if she feels the same now as she did then.

It’s a good thing Sara Gilbert had the idea to get the old Roseanne gang back together!
