Survivor: Island of the Idols Scoop – Week 6 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments
John Powell – GlobalTV.com
If Survivor has taught us anything it is that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. In her ignorance, Lauren claimed that Elaine was incapable of being a strong strategic player. Is that because of Elaine’s casual attitude, her size or perhaps is it because of where Elaine comes from? While we may never know what basis Lauren has for thinking so poorly of her, Elaine herself has repeated over and over again how people have underestimated her, thought he worst of her, her entire life.
The joke was on Lauren though as the “incapable” Elaine very capably won the power to nullify a vote at Tribal Council as she completed her Island of the Idols task successfully. Like Dora the Explorer’s nemesis, she pinched Jason’s vote leaving the original Vokai Alliance down 4 to 3 against the original Lairo Alliance heading into the vote.
When Elaine made her move it was Lauren who broke down crying, grumbling that Survivor has been her dream since she was a child and she didn’t want to go home.
If you see Jason Linden in the real world, outside of the game of Survivor don’t be surprised if you see him walking a little bit funny. You would too if you had a knife stuck in your back. Aaron played his part fooling the original Vokai Alliance into thinking that he was jumping ship. Aaron, like the rest of Lairo, voted Jason out of the game.
For his part, Jason called out Aaron before leaving but it probably won’t have much effect when Aaron is in tight with the alliance to begin with as they fight to survive and keep their advantage.
With the line drawn in the sand at Vokai, Lauren, Tommy and Dan better find a crack in that original Lairo Alliance and find it quick or they might be Pagonged. Dean is facing the same fate at the new Lairo Tribe with everyone voting out Tom but him last episode.

Week 6: Game Fail – Jason Linden
At least Jason can take comfort in the fact that he was the most threatening player in the original Vokai Alliance, can’t he? Perception is everything on that island. Although some would argue Tommy is the one to look out for, Jason certainly didn’t hide the fact that he was there to play hard from the very start. Jason wanted to be the mastermind but it was him who was played masterfully by Aaron.
Strategic Gameplay
Discretion was not part of Jason’s vocabulary. He may have had some great schemes, however, when there is an issue of trust and your gameplay, motives are transparent, it is very hard to pull off those plans with any kind of stealth or slyness.
Rating: 2 / 5
Social Gameplay
Getting along with people is one thing. People not believing that you will keep your word is quite another. Jason could never overcome the first impressions he made.
Rating: 2 / 5
Entertainment Value
We love schemers. They are the core of the Survivor franchise. Schemers who cannot carry out their devious plans though are a fireworks show dampened by relentless rain. There is no payoff.
Rating: 2 / 5
Final Castaway Rating: 6 / 15
Week 6: Powell’s Picks
Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.
Bronze Amateur: Noura Salman
She has no Off button.
Silver Amateur: Lauren Beck
You would think that someone who claims in her Survivor bio that others have persistently underestimate her would know not to do the same to others.
Gold Amateur: Jason Linden
The lawyer couldn’t spin a new image, couldn’t offer a decent defence and couldn’t pull off his schemes successfully.
Bronze MVP: “Boston” Rob Mariano
That is one sweet shelter, Rob The Builder is building.
Silver MVP: Aaron Meredith
He totally bamboozled the other side like a true puppet master would.
Gold MVP: Elaine Stott
Her solid gameplay spearheaded her alliance’s victory at Tribal Council. It is a move that could very well get her and her allies to the merger.
