Canada Repping on the SNL Stage
It’s so exciting to see Canadian Simu Liu as not only the MCU’s punchiest super hero, but now he’s hosting Saturday Night Live, which is arguably a bigger deal… maybe. But it’s still awesome, and Liu is now immortalized with some greats, including the recent Dan Levy, and, well, so many others that why even start listing?
And he’s also one of the few Asian men to have hosted the show. Before him, there was Jackie Chan, Awkwafina, Lucy Liu and Sandra Oh. That list was sadly much easier to exhaust. Actually, that list is way shorter than the other, other list, which is MCU actors to host the show. There’s been way more of those.
But anyway, Simu Liu has proven, over and over, to be a fan favourite no matter what he’s on. He was beloved on hit-and-actually-funny Canadian sitcom Kim’s Convenience. And his recent role as the titular hero in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings blew audiences away.
In this guy’s relatively short filmography, he’s already shown to excel in such different roles, from comedy, to comedy-drama, to action-drama-comedy, to comedy-action-drama. He’s got it all – at least, all that’s needed for a top drawer SNL episode.
It’s pretty exciting, as a Toronto-based SNL fan, to see this guy make his way up on that stage. You’d be right to be pumped for this weekend.
Don’t miss it – 11.30 et/8.30 pt on Global.
Saturday Night Live can be streamed live and On Demand on the new Global TV App and on STACKTV. Global is also available through all major TV service providers.
